Women’s softball splits double header with rival Rochester

In a two-game series against Rochester, the women’s softball team played a mixed series, winning the first game 4-0.

However, in the second game, the were handily defeated 9-6. This was a tough loss attributed to the fact that it was Senior Day.

In the first game, pitcher Dana Dolinko ’19 led the team in hitting with two hits and one RBI. Kim Puzo ’19 was second-best at bat with two hits and zero RBIs.

Julia Boule ’22 was third- best at bat with two hits and one RBI. Lastly, Makayla Koehler ’21 had two hits and one RBI.

In the context of pitching, eight players received honorable mentions: Stuart Buxton ’21, Dolinko, Kelsey Hartsoe ’19, Makayla Koehler ’21, Puzo, Julissa Malana ’22, Boule and Lindsey Podlaski ’22.

It was a solid hitting effort by the whole team. Koehler controlled the pitching game and her winning game was celebrated by the whole team.

Over the course of the game, she struck out three batters and only gave up three hits in her individual effort.

Boule had a solid game, scoring one run for the Dutchwomen.

After the game had commenced, the team celebrated but quickly composed themselves in order to prepare for the next game.

The second game did not go as planned for Union and its seniors. The Dutchmen were overmatched and defeated by a score of 9-6.

However, there were some notable individual performances in this game.

Puzo had two runs and one RBI, Hartsoe had two hits and one RBI and Koehler had two hits and three RBIs.

Finally, Malana had one hit and one RBI. Going into the fourth inning, the game was extremely close with a score of 5-4.

Puzo was able to tie the game for the Dutchwomen, and hope was still in the air.

However, Rochester responded with four unanswered runs to easily put the game out of hand.

The beginning of a rally was sparked in the seventh inning when Hartsoe blasted a home run.

Although the team celebrated emphatically, they could not overcome the four-run deficit.

While the weekend did not go as planned, the softball team celebrated its Senior Day this past weekend.

Dolinko, Hartsoe and Puzo celebrated their final home games. With their final home game, their teammates remember their best memories on and off the field.
