Union College accepted 44% to the class of 2027, according to admissions data received by the Concordiensis. A record 9,484 students applied to join the class of 2027, and 4,175 students were admitted. The expected class size is 570 students. Regular decision letters were available to students beginning on March 18th, and admitted students received an accepted student package in the mail.
Statistics for the classes of 2026 and 2027 are below. Data for the class of 2026 is complete, whereas data for the class of 2027 is preliminary. This is because the admissions office “will accept a few late applications and will admit some more students along the way,” Matt Malatesta ‘91, VP for Admissions, Financial Aid and Enrollment said.
Union also defers early applicants. If a student is deferred, they have the option to have their application be re-reviewed in the Early Decision 2 or Regular Decision application pools. Acceptance rates for each deferral option vary. The Concordiensis also received admissions data for the class of 2026 from the Grant Admissions Office, and Union’s 2022-2023 Common Data Set.
Applicants can also be admitted to Union’s Scholars, Academic Opportunity Program (AOP), Arthur O. Eve Higher Education Program (HEOP), and Leadership in Medi- cine (LIM) programs. 696 students were admitted to the Union Scholars program, “a rigorous academic program offered to a select group of outstanding incoming students,” and the program enrolls 50-60 students per year. 106 students were admitted to the AOP/HEOP program, a program to “increase college access for students with demonstrated economic need and the ability to compete academically in competitive higher education institutions.” The program enrolls about 30 students per year. 327 students applied to the Leadership in Medicine program, a program that offers “combined bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees for students who anticipate assuming a leadership role in 21st-Centurymedicine.” The Concordiensis did not receive additional data for the LIM class of 2027; for the class of 2026, 349 students applied and 28 were ultimately admitted.
In addition to the increased number of applicants, the college has also seen an increase in domestic student interest outside of the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states. “In 2019… we enrolled 550 students with 46 (8%) being outside that Northeast region of the U.S.; last year, we enrolled 575 students with 77 (13%) outside. That is a growth of 31 students from those regions, up 67%. We hope for similar gains this year.” Malatesta said.
Accepted students have until May 1st to enroll and pay the $750 enrollment fee, which will be applied to the student’s Fall 2023 term bill. Admitted students also have the opportunity to learn more about Union during admitted student events on April 13, 14, 20, and 21.
