Union has had a number of student bands perform throughout my four years. There’s a reason why people pack the parties they perform at. This past Friday, February 20, 2026, the student band Office Hours made their debut performance at KA. I was honored to see them perform that night, and the crowd loved seeing it too.
The first thing that stands out to me about them is their name: other Union bands make their names Union-themed, which is a good idea, but I like how Office Hours made their name more generic. It still has a college theme to it, but it makes the band unique among the other bands.
“We were looking for a cool name, and that’s just the one that stuck,” Sophia Pegolo ‘26, one of the singers in the band, told me. “It’s sick saying that office hours is in session.”
Pegolo told me that the band formed because of Sam Dickinson ‘27. He was previously in the band Nott Logical until it disbanded due to every member (except Dickinson) graduating. He formed the band because he missed the community feeling that comes along with it. One could see the joy that it brought to him to be back on stage, playing those amazing guitar solos once more.
When I sit in the Concordiensis office after 9 p.m., I sometimes get to hear student bands (including Office Hours) practice in the WRUC studio across the hallway. I’m always excited for them when they make their debuts at weekend parties, and sometimes I even recognize some of the songs. What impresses me is how the bands make little to no mistakes when practicing. They also make few mistakes when they perform. It comes to show how talented these student bands are.
At their first performance, I liked Carly Thompson ‘27’s lead vocal performance of “Green Light” by Lorde (2017). The crowd loved it too. This was true for each song for the other lead singer Pegolo as well, especially when the two sang their harmonies together. After every performance, the crowd erupted in cheers. The cheers were so loud that my Apple Watch gave me noise warnings afterward.
The drummer, Gracie Schultz ‘28, who also plays for the student band Devi and the Tritones, is yet another example of how talented each band member is. Her drum solos were loud and impressive, making everyone in the audience stop and listen.
The final member of the band, bassist Ben Visconti ‘28, really helped give support to the band’s overall sound and added extra depth to every song. Notably, in their performance of Katy Perry’s “Hot n Cold” anyone watching could see his incredible technique while playing his bass, mesmerizing the crowd.
I also appreciate how they included members of other student bands in their performance to enhance the songs. When they performed “WHERE IS MY HUSBAND!” by Raye (2025), they brought out Angellina Martinelli ‘28, who is the saxophonist for Devi and the Tritones. I feel like the fact that they worked with other musicians to enhance their performance helped their performance, and I hope they do something similar again.
When their performance concluded, the crowd chanted “one more song,” which shows exactly how the student body felt about Office Hours. Students loved hearing them on a Friday night in Davidson North. Overall, I believe that Office Hours is a band whose performances you can look forward to on weekends at Union.
