On Friday night, I had the absolute delight of seeing the “frat debut” of Dutchmen’s Revenge at Kappa Alpha in Davidson. This is a Union College campus band that first formed last year, inspired by lead vocalist Adrianna Miles ‘28, who stated, “ I wanted to continue with music since I was in a band in high school.” She started the band with three fellow sophomore musicians: drummer Alldyn Gotora ‘28, guitarist and vocalist Maren Krasner ‘28, and bassist Evan Schieren ‘28. Last year, the band performed for the first time at Union Pride Fest. This year, they have their sights set on taking over campus and nightlife at the college. The band played with their newest member for the first time on Friday, Daniel Buletza ‘26, who was on guitar and vocals.
The band covered familiar anthems that we all know and love. I had the pleasure of hearing many popular throwbacks from the 2000s and early 2010s, like “Teenage Dirtbag” by Wheatus, “Before He Cheats” by Carrie Underwood, and “Scotty Doesn’t Know” by Lustra. The entire crowd was singing along the whole time. The night did not go off without a hitch, though. I was told that bassist Evan broke his bass during the performance. This is when tech producer Sam Dickinson ‘27 had to schlep over to Reamer in the snow to retrieve his bass from the WRUC room where the band practices. After giving the new bass to Evan, he ripped his finger on the string. All this being said, the crowd was none the wiser and enjoyed the raging music for the entire performance.
The music was so thoroughly enjoyed that it dominated discussion on Yik Yak, an unofficial anonymous message board for Union students, following the performance. One anonymous poster said, “Dutchmen’s Revenge was absolutely fire.” Another claimed that, “ Dutchmen’s Revenge needs to perform every single weekend.” And I must concur. The vibes in KA when “Hot n’ Cold” by Katy Perry came on, were, dare I say, electric. The band was so successful, in fact, that even Campo had to come see them. Claiming there was a noise complaint. But the band continued to play, and Campo left without issue.
The band was extremely happy with their success. Posting to their Instagram @dutchmens_revenge “KA WAS AWESOME!!! Big shout-out to KA for letting us have the opportunity to perform. We will be back soon and hope to see you again next time.” The band claimed, “They just wanna have fun.” I think they have. This stellar performance leads many fans wondering when and where they can expect to see the group perform again. They have a performance scheduled for Saturday, the 21st, at Alpha Delta Phi’s Fero house. The band told us to expect many more to come, as they have been fielding calls from many members of Greek life.
