As of April 14, 2026, two Union hockey players have entered the college hockey transfer portal: Lauren Johnson on the women’s team and Ben Muthersbaugh on the men’s team. Muthersbaugh has committed to ASU, and Johnson is not officially committed to another school. Union has not gained any players from the portal. Both teams have more incoming first year players than those leaving, and it is possible that Union will not gain any players from the transfer portal.
Over this past season, defender Lauren Johnson has played in 19 games, garnered two assists, and blocked 11 shots. The women’s college hockey transfer portal closed on April 6, 2026, so it is unlikely that other Union women’s players will enter the portal. At this time, players cannot enter the transfer portal, but they can still commit to other schools.
It is also unclear whether the team will seek to fill Johnson’s vacancy; according to The Rink Live, Union has nine incoming first-year players, more than the team’s five graduating seniors, one retiring player, and Johnson.
Muthersbaugh’s decision to transfer is a significant blow to the men’s team. This past season, he played in 36 games and garnered 36 points (19 goals, 17 assists), which led the team in points along with Brandon Buhr ‘26. Muthersbaugh has 64 points (32 goals, 32 assists) through 72 collegiate games.
As a result, only one of Union’s five top point producers (Tyler Dunbar ‘27) will be on the roster next season due to graduation and the transfer portal. Union has not lost a top-five point producer to the portal since spring 2022, when Collin Graf transferred to Quinnipiac University.
Similar to the women’s team, it is unclear whether the men’s team will fill Muthersbaugh’s vacancy in the transfer portal. According to College Hockey News, the team has 11 incoming first-years, more than the team’s nine graduating seniors and Muthersbaugh’s transfer out.
The window to enter the men’s transfer portal closes on April 27, 2026, and it is possible that other men’s players will enter. Concordiensis will be following the college hockey transfer portal this offseason.
