Last Thursday, on February 26, Bhangra Union, one of Union College’s various multicultural dance clubs, had the opportunity to travel to Karigon elementary school and perform at their annual multicultural potluck. This was the club’s third consecutive year participating in the event.
The performing members included the co-presidents and choreographers Armaan Uppal ’26 and Sienna Chambial ’27, PR chair and choreographer Narayani ’28, and treasurer Alekhya Buragadda ’28. The team was accompanied by photographer Kavita Trivedi ’27 who is also a member of their larger crew.
In the event, the students had the opportunity to perform a part of their Fall U 2025 choreography in front of the students and their families, and teach them some basic steps and moves in order to allow them to engage in diverse cultures, nurturing a sense of respect and belonging between the peers. The dancers then also had the opportunity to enjoy the delicious home-cooked meals prepared and brought to the school by the students’ families, celebrating their heritage and culture.
“As an international student from India, I always appreciate such opportunities that allow me to share my culture with other people,” shared co-president Chambial. “Doing so with kids is all the more fun because they are so excited to watch us perform and curious to learn the steps we teach them. To me, there is no greater joy than experiencing my culture through dance and seeing other people experience the same joy makes me very proud and overjoyed.”
Co-president Uppal expressed, “I have been going to this elementary school for 3 years and performing for these kids never gets old. They have so much energy and want to learn every year.” As a senior, this was his last time performing at the potluck.
In the short span of three years, Karigon Elementary’s multicultural potluck has become one of the club’s favourite off-campus events to attend. This year, the club experienced immense joy upon finding out that they made it to the Shenendehowa Central Schools District’s weekly newsletter! The club is excited about their return to the stage next year and is currently looking forward to their spring performance in the Lothridge Dance Festival on Steinmetz Day in the Nott Memorial. Make sure you add it to your list of events to attend next term!
