Union College is set to face Brown and Yale in a pair of home games this weekend at M&T Bank Center. The Garnet Chargers enter the matchup with a 13-6-2 record, coming off a 4-2 win against Princeton.
Union will host two Ivy League opponents, Brown and Yale, as they continue a strong season fueled by offensive production and solid goaltending. Senior forward Brandon Buhr leads the team and recently reached the milestone of 100 NCAA games played. Buhr is currently Union’s leading goal scorer with 15 goals and has totaled 22 points so far this season. Junior defenseman Tyler Dunbar has also emerged as a breakout player, leading the team with 23 points, including 14 assists and nine goals. Both Buhr and Dunbar scored in Union’s recent win over Princeton.
Union’s success this season has also been supported by its goaltending duo of sophomore Cameron Korpi and freshman Brayden Gillespie. Korpi, who has started the majority of Union’s games, carries a 2.34 goals against average and a .900 save percentage. Gillespie has been particularly impressive in his freshman campaign, posting a 1.69 goals against average and a .932 save percentage. He recorded 31 saves in his first career shutout against eighth-ranked Quinnipiac, marking a standout performance early in his collegiate career.
Brown enters the weekend struggling with a 4-13 record on the season. The Bears are led offensively by sophomore forwards Ivan Zadvernyuk and Ben Poitras. Zadvernyuk leads the team with 13 points, while Poitras leads Brown in goals with six. In net, senior Tyler Shea has handled most of the goaltending duties, posting a 3.04 goals against average and a .916 save percentage. Shea has recorded two wins and nine losses in his starts this season.
Yale comes into the weekend with a similar record to Brown at 5-11. The Bulldogs are led by sophomore forward Ronan O’Donnell, who has eight goals and 14 points to lead the team. Senior captain David Chen follows closely behind with 11 points on the season. Yale’s goaltending is anchored by sophomore Noah Pak, who holds a 2.81 goals against average and a .914 save percentage.
While Union enters the weekend as the clear favorite, home ice advantage does not guarantee easy victories. Brown and Yale will look to capitalize on any opportunity to pull off an upset as Union aims to better its conference record.
