On Sunday, October 19th, the Union’s very own ‘Devi and the Tritones’ performed at Stoney’s bar and grill. This was the group’s first off-campus booked gig. They were met with a packed house full of supporters. As you walked into the bar, you could feel the warm environment. Every seat was taken and some students were even left standing to watch the performance.
The band consists of Straliha Durr ’28 as the lead singer, pianist Zion Schlussel ’28, saxophonist Angelina Martinelli ’28, and drummer Gracie Schultz ’28. The band originally formed in the Spring term of the 2024-2025 school year for the WRUC’s ‘Battle of the Bands’ competition at Union. They met as students in Union’s jazz band and invited Durr to join as the lead singer. The group blossomed right after their wholesome start.
They play covers of popular songs across a variety of genres, and have a tendency to add and improvise their set list during their performances. The band is driven by passion and gives each member their own moments to shine.

Devi and the Tritones played hit songs such as ‘Too Sweet’, ‘Take on Me’, and ‘Creep,’ And even improvised songs like ‘Feeling Good’. “We do that a lot,” shared Durr. The performance was fantastic and spread good vibes throughout the restaurant. You could hear Durr’s vocals from wherever you were sitting; Schultz’s rhythmic drumming, Martinelli’s smooth saxophone, and Schlussel’s keyboard and singing skills also radiated throughout the room.
The band expressed their gratitude for the great turnout of people with Durr stating that she was “happily surprised” with everyone who came to support because the group had worked very hard to prepare for this performance.
Martinelli said, “we have been working really hard to build up songs.” The band emphasized how grateful they are to be able to share their hard work with others. Martinelli stated, “I felt really lucky for the opportunity… and I wouldn’t trade it for anything”. Although the band is still fresh, their determination and passion for what they love is visible in every performance.
The band members have been working hard to hone their skills and hope to have more on and off-campus performances during the school year. Make sure to keep an eye out for the band at future events and stay tuned for all that Devi and the Tritones have to offer in their time at Union.
