Saturday Night Live, more commonly referred to as SNL, is renowned for its funny skits involving both its hosts and celebrity guest appearances. These often go viral online for their hilarious scripts and acting, with clips trending across social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram. One that did especially well a year and a half ago, with 22 million views on just YouTube, featured pop-singer Ariana Grande and a character known as Domingo. Played by SNL cast member Marcello Hernández, Domingo quickly became a fan-favorite around the world. Hernández gained a significant following as a result of the success of his Domingo character, and released a solo stand-up special on Netflix earlier this year. In just a few weeks, the comedian is coming to perform live at Union.
The Union College Speakers Forum collaborated with the Concert Club to bring Hernández to campus, with high hopes that this event will catch the attention of many students. “We really wanted to make an event that people are excited about,” said President of Concert Club, Sam Dickinson 27’, “and bring someone to campus that people are genuinely eager to see.” While the process to get Hernández to Union was not simple, Concert Club members and Hernández’ team worked together to secure the date on his visit. Once the performance was finalized, the only thing left to do was spread the information on campus.
Since the show was announced, students have been thrilled to have the opportunity to see the comedian here at Union. “I’ve been a fan of Marcello Hernández since before he was on SNL when I watched all of his short, little instagram reels. And now to see him live! I am so beyond excited,” Maya Wolpaw 28’ ecstatically stated.
Hernández will be performing his comedy act at 7pm on Thursday, May 21 in Memorial Chapel. Tickets will go on sale starting May 11 for $5 each with a two person limit per purchase. These prices will only increase as time goes on, so make sure to get your tickets early in order to secure your seat for his performance!
