Field Hockey team loses to Ithaca college 4-0 on Saturday

On Saturday, September 28, the Women’s Field Hockey team faced Ithaca in the Liberty League opener at Frank Bailey Field at Bertagna-Class of 1985 Stadium.

The Dutchwomen and the Bombers fought it out in the first fifteen minutes of play. Both teams matched each other as they both took four shots and put two shots on target. It was scoreless game until the last thirty seconds of play in the first period, where Ithaca’s Morgan Mullen ’22 scored with an assist from teammate Brianna Lennon ’23.

Starting for Union in the second period was Cristina Boudreau ’22, Jill Bove ’23, Katie Talacci ’21, Sarah Wilkinson ’20, Cici Lyne ’21, Isabel Lubin ’23, Caroline Werner ’23, Eliza Munns ’23, Charlotte Leyland ’20, Anna Trancozo ’22 and Heather Poisson ’21. The Dutchwomen did their best to put off Ithaca from scoring again but were unable to. Ithaca’s Mullen scored twice in the second period just under three minutes into play. Mullen scored again two minutes later furthering Ithaca’s lead over Union.

Union was able to prevent Ithaca from scoring again in the remaining ten minutes of play in the period.

For the game, Ithaca held a 15-11 edge in shots and 13-7 for shots on goal. Union made more saves than Ithaca, 8-6.

The Dutchwomen return to action on Wednesday as they host Hartwick College at 6 p.m.
