Dutchmen baseball garners numerous spring honors

On May 14, the Liberty League office announced the baseball players who were named to the All-Liberty League First Team, All-Liberty Second Team and Honorable Mention All-Liberty League. Union College landed five student-athletes on the lists.

Sean Cullen ‘20 lead the way, earning honors to the All-Liberty League First Team. He ranked second in the league with a .399 batting average and led the league in with 55 total hits.

Cullen also led the Dutchmen and ranked second in the league for both slugging percentage (.630) and on-base percentage (.456).

In addition to Sean Cullen ‘20, Joe Ganim ‘19 was also named to the All-Liberty League First Team. He was second on the team with a batting average of .357 as the team’s lead-off hitter.

He totaled 45 hits in 126 at-bats and held a .417 on-base percentage.

Elias Kuhns ‘21 was the last Dutchmen named to the First Team. Kuhns had a .330 batting average with 37 hits in 112 at-bats.

His slugging percentage of .598 ranked him third in the conference. He is tied with Cullen for the team lead in doubles with 12.

Colin Nye ‘20 was the lone wolf who was named to the All-Liberty League Second Team.

As a pitcher, he led the Dutchmen’s pitching corps with a 2.77 earned-run average and a 4-3 record.

Nye also pitched three complete games, ending with a grand total of 29 strikeouts in 39 innings.

Dominic Nardone ‘20 earned Honorable Mention All-Liberty League. Nardone ‘20 is also a pitcher who ended the season with a 3-2 record and a 3.51 ERA.

He led the Dutchmen in both innings pitched (41) and strikeouts (47).

In addition to the Liberty League Awards, one member of the team was selected to the prestigious Google Cloud Academic All-District team.

The team is extremely competitive and membership is determined by the College Sports Information Directors of America or CoSIDA.

The athlete chosen for this team was Kevin Chaimowitz ’21. Chaimowitz is a member of the Dutchmen infielding crew.

He is from Bellmore, New York and is pursuing a degree in Economics. He was the sole member of the Dutchmen baseball team to qualify for this team.

To qualify for membership an athlete must maintain a GPA of 3.3 or better, and demonstrate both intellectual and athletic prowess.
