This Saturday night, the Old Chapel lit up with an eerie aura in shades of orange and black as the World Around U (WAU) club organized its spooky Masquerade Fright Night with full pomp and show. The extravaganza started at 9:00 p.m. as enthusiastic students started to show up in their chic all-black outfits, as requested by the club. Upon arrival, they were welcomed by an enthusiastic E-board that guided them to a plethora of masks to ramp up their outfits. Ranging from classic Columbina masks of the fifteenth century to the more modern demon and spider-themed masks, the club had something unique to offer to everyone.
As the students started filling into the main room, the essence of Halloween emerged eccentrically with spider webs, danger signs, spooky lanterns, and a dark room living up to the spooky theme. The spotlight, however, was stolen by the lavish chocolate fondue that rested on the snack counter, enticing everyone and pulling them in with its appetizing display of liquid joy – chocolate. Freshman Kavita Trivedi said, “The chocolate fondue was my favorite thing. It was like every time I went away, it would call out to me from a distance, and I couldn’t say no.”
The dance floor was constantly packed with the 2010s bangers keeping everyone on their feet the entire night. To make the night even more entertaining, the club came up with a fun set of tasks for everyone to complete by 10:15 p.m. like dancing with strangers, requesting Nishtha (President, WAU) for a song, untying E-board members’ shoelaces and posting a picture of the chocolate fondue on their Instagram stories to win a surprise gift. Within seconds, the students put on their game faces and set out on a mission of trying to win the grand prize. What followed ended up being a chaotic yet enjoyable display of panic for viewers as E-board members shuffled from one place to another trying to keep their shoelaces from being untied by the students. However, much to everyone’s joy, they were unsuccessful in their efforts, the embarrassed and defeated looks on their faces becoming a spectacle for the attendees.
The event was a huge success, with each element nothing short of perfect. As the club called it a day at 11:00 p.m., everyone left with beautiful souvenirs, full stomachs, aesthetic photographs, and cherishable memories to last them a lifetime. “I would definitely come back,” said freshman Kshitij Agrawal, “I would ditch Halloweekend for this”.
