A recent discovery by the Editorial Board of Concordiensis could change people’s perspective on the recent flooding of Reamer due to the secrets that have been uncovered. It might just be the hidden piece to
the big picture. An unknown, highly confidential source has discovered that the flooding of Reamer, technically Upper Dining Hall, might be a revenge plan by the West Dining Hall.
Utterly shocked by this piece of news, the Editorial Board had conducted their own investigation and were appalled by the results be cause there might be some truth to this statement.
Since the establishment of Upper, West has seen fewer students coming to it during the common hour. At first, West was saddened by this fact, unable to understand the reason why students visited it less frequently. This unawareness changed one fateful afternoon, when a conversation between a few students was overheard. The conversation was something similar to:
Student 1: West? Why do you
guys want to eat at West?
Student 2: Because…
Student 3: It’s close to our dorm and I am too lazy to walk.
Student 1: But West is far from my class where as Upper is barely two minutes away?
Student 4: Upper? You mean the new Dining Hall that’s opened in Reamer?
Student 1: YES! I went there for lunch this afternoon and the food was so good. They even have a really cool Pasta Bar.
Student 2: Is it really near? I feel the distance is the same anyway.
Student 5: It is easier to access than walking all the way to West. I guarantee
Student 3: Since both Student 1 and Student 5 say so, we should check it out. Let’s have dinner over there tomorrow. Let’s overcome laziness together and walk!
And then the students delved into conversations that students usually do. West would usually not pay attention to the gossip but that day due to the overheard conversation and tid-bit of information, it could feel its heart breaking.
It only had one thought in its mind, that “I have been replaced,” and it would have cried if it could but as if supporting West’s sorrow, it started raining. West was in its own slump for the next couple of days and due to its dull mood and newfound interest in so-called “Upper,” only paid attention to any conversations that
revolved around Upper. Everyday, West saw the number of people coming to it for lunch and dinner
decrease and even if they came, there was always a comparison between the distance they had to walk to reach West and how time-consuming it was. Over time, the sadness in West’s heart was replaced by resentment and anger. The only consolation that it had was that at least during the weekends people graced its doors, but even that was not enough.
West wanted its students back and Upper had cemented its place as West’s enemy in the heart. West
started to plan. It waited for years, stewing in its own resentment watching and waiting for the right
opportunity to come. And it came.
When West heard of the wind chill that was going to grace Schenectady in February 2023, it thought to itself: “the time has come.” West began its plot.
From the investigation, it could be inferred that West had been maybe slowly harming Upper via methods currently unknown. The Editorial Team assumes that after causing harm to Upper, it put the blame on weather. No conclusive proof has been found on whether the flooding in Reamer was due to sabotage or natural causes.
No matter what the cause, West seems to have achieved its purpose. Upper has been moved to a very far place, making it temporarily inconvenient for students to go to Upper. According to the data provided by Dining, West now sees twice the footfall than it saw before the flooding.
