Men’s hockey soars to victory in 3-1 win against Dartmouth

On Saturday night, February 9, the Men’s Hockey team played against Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire. The Dutchmen won the game with a score of 3-1.

It was a scoreless first period for both the Dutchmen and the Big Green. Starting the game, Brett Supinski ’19 lost the face-off against Dartmouth’s Matt Baker ’21.

Baker ’21 attempted to score a goal but his shot was blocked by Michael Ryan ’22.

Brett Supinski ’19 faced Matt Baker ’21 again in the face-off, but this time Union won possession of the puck.

Anthony Rinaldi ’20 had control of the puck and tried to score a point for the Dutchmen, but was blocked by goalie Adrian Clark ’20.

Dartmouth held possession of the puck for the majority of the time remaining in the first period.

The second period had a thrilling start. Three and a half minutes into the period, the first goal of the night was scored.

Dartmouth’s Matt Baker ’21 was assisted by Cameron Roth ’19 to make the score 1-0. Dartmouth’s lead did not last long as the Dutchmen tied the game two minutes later.

Greg Campbell ’19 scored the goal with assists from sophomores Sean Harrison ’21 and Jack Adams ’21.

On the ice for Union in addition to Campbell ’19, Harrison ’21 and Adams ’21 was Parker Foo ’21 and Michael Ryan ’22.

Neither team scored for the remainder of the period. Strong efforts were made by Union’s Taylor Brierley ’21, Sam Morton ’22, Vas Kolias ’20 and Brandon Estes ’21 to give Union the lead but the game would remain tied at 1-1.

Union was given a man-up advantage early on in the third period due to a penalty called on Dartmouth’s Cameron Roth ’19 for hooking.

Cole Maier ’19 and Lucas Breault ’22 both won face-offs against the Big Green, giving the Dutchmen possession of the puck that led to their victory against Dartmouth..
