Technology rules: Students love Apple’s new disposable AirPods

As Apple Inc. continues to innovate and reinvent their product line, we consumers are constantly raising our expectations for new technology. With the release of their latest and most popular product, AirPods, Apple has reached a new level of quality that is drawing a lot of attention on Union’s campus, particularly among the environmental awareness clubs.

Above all the cool features of the new headphones like bluetooth connectivity and tap-assist technology, the most overlooked aspect is that they’re completely disposable after a day’s use. Students here at Union are obsessed with this new feature, calling it “revolutionary,” “bold,” and “probably the most impressive act of environmental awareness ever.”

Despite the $159 price tag, many believe the benefits of the environmentally friendly disposal habits that accompany this product outweighs the cost of buying a new pair every day.

“I love the new AirPods,” said Jack Wasabi. “They’re exactly like my one-a-day contacts. In the morning I put in my contacts and AirPods, and right before I go to bed I take them both out and throw them right in the trash. People think that I spend too much money on them, but it’s a lot better than wearing glasses. As for the AirPods, I just buy them in bulk from the Apple Store.”

Jack also mentioned how nice it was to have the separated waste bins around campus, but wished they would add the AirPod to the list of labeled products under the recycling bin.

Some students still have concerns with the Apple product. “The AirPods are cool and all that,” admitted Tommy Burn, “but I’m still confused as to why they come with a battery display. I can get through the whole day and throw them away with 50% battery left, and couldn’t imagine someone using their whole charge before throwing them out.”

Tommy continued ranting about other seemingly unnecessary features for a disposable product of this kind adding, “Why would I leave them in a dental floss case? A garbage bin is so much easier.”

At the end of the day, the new trend ultimately appeals to students because there’s just something about the satisfaction of going through two pods in one day.
