Union College is a small liberal arts school in The Middle of Nowhere, New York. It attracts a diverse range of characters, ranging from wealthy hipsters to depressed engineers. Following their eccentric personalities come uncanny instances that occur around them. Here are some interesting moments that have happened at 807 Onion Street. We refer to them as Onioncore.
Starting strong is the time my life was almost taken by a squirrel. I was walking outside when I heard rustling in a garbage can. I went to investigate, and when I peered my head over the trash, a large and vicious squirrel jumped out, flying toward my face. I screamed and launched my body onto the ground as the squirrel scurried away, leaving no evidence behind. I was so scared that it felt like my heart was doing backflips. That memory will forever play in my head every time I see a garbage can. This, right here, is what we like to call Onioncore. Are you starting to understand?
Examples of Onioncore include moments like a colony of ants on the toilet seat, acorns raining onto students’ heads, slipping on ice a total of 50 times in the winter, and setting the fire alarm off when trying to microwave beans. These are just a few of the many instances that have taken place at Union. Now we are going to dive into some specific stories.
Let’s start with one of the editors of the Concordiensis, Sienna Chambial. She was thrilled to find out that she got accepted into the New Zealand Study Abroad program at Union. She anticipated a smooth sailing trip full of fun and relaxation. However, she didn’t expect a herd of bulls to get in the way of that. She soon found herself running for her life as the bulls chased her and her friends across the grass. This is the kind of insanity that happens when attending Union College.
Another instance of Onioncore was when an anonymous Freshman was roaming around the streets of Schenectady with his friends. They then came across a stray door. What else was there to do besides take it for themselves? The three of them decided to adopt the door and brought it back to campus.
Lastly, Freshman Gael Landa started his first day of classes on a great note. He had just made plans to go thrifting with his friends. He was so excited that when he turned around, he ran straight into a pole. After his friends got the universal college experience of bringing someone to the emergency room, they continued to reminisce about the perfect first day.
