Fall is just around the corner at Union College. The leaves are starting to change color, the air is growing crisper, and the sun is going to sleep earlier each day. Not only is there a seasonal twist, but a fashion twist is also in tow here on campus. Fall Fashion at Union never disappoints—students can be seen in vibrant and chic outfits across campus, expressing themselves and their excitement to match the theme in the air.
In our quest to understand how fall fashion is perceived at Union College, we spent some time talking to people about how they planned their outfits in the fall.
Maya Wines ‘27 was seen wearing a black polyester dress and a blue denim jacket with pins and embroidery. They chose the jacket because it is warm enough to wear when the mornings are cold, but won’t make them too hot when the temperature rises throughout the day. Maya embroidered their jacket themself and gathered pins that caught their interest.
Melanie Thomas Denaxas ‘29 wore a barette, an olive trench coat with a silver belt, and a silky green dress with white lace. She was going for a sophisticated look, matching the Art Nouveau style. She also claimed that she felt like a dying tree. When asked why she dressed that way, she said she feels like society has left dressing up behind. Finally, she stated that it’s fun, uses lots of creativity, and is a good form of expression.
Parinya Arunniyomsak ’27 was wearing a white and gray striped t-shirt, gray jeans, and a gray cross-body bag. He felt that the color scheme wasn’t too bright or dark, in a way symbolizing the change in the amount of daylight there is during the Fall. He was going for a classy style, inspired by K-dramas that he is a fan of.
Amy Rosales ‘29 had a red long-sleeve, denim skirt, tights, and white legwarmers on. Red is her favorite color, so she tends to wear it as much as possible. She also felt that the color aligned with the foliage. She claimed that her outfit was “like a shadow of Fall creeping in” and said that she likes experimenting with different fabrics.
Ashley Prasad ‘28 was dressed in a gray long-sleeve shirt and denim straight-leg jeans. Her inspiration came from the television series, Gilmore Girls, which matched a Fall aesthetic. Abrianna Subhan ‘28 wore a white and gray checkered flannel tee-shirt and dark blue skinny jeans. The style was inspired by her mother, and she felt that her timeless flannel needed to be brought back into fashion since it isn’t just chic, but also provides warmth.
The onset of Fall always provides students with the opportunity to experiment with outfits and show their creativity. The transitioning season is an inspiration for them to transition their style too. What are your favourite fall outfits? Submit them to our photos of the week folder and let us know!
