Note to the readers: This article may not age well depending on whether the Knicks beat the Pacers. My apologies in advance if this is the case.
On May 16, 2025, thousands of people flooded the New York City streets outside Madison Square Garden. The New York Knicks had just beaten the Boston Celtics in four out of six NBA Eastern Conference Semifinals games. This confirmed their advancement to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 1999.
The streets surrounding Madison Square Garden were filled with celebration. People were chanting phrases like “Go New York, go New York, go,” and throwing out curse words at the Celtics. They climbed billboards, lampposts, and more. The Empire State Building, which sits a few blocks away from MSG, was even lit blue and orange, the signature Knicks colors. New York City has not been this united in a long time.
When asked how they feel about the Knicks’ victory, an anonymous interviewee stated, “I’m excited. I think the Knicks are bringing the city together. The city has never been so alive.”
Dmitri Wild-Arons, a Freshman at Union, claimed, “As a life-long Knicks fan who’s never seen my team get to this level, this feels amazing.”
Knicks fans are thrilled to see how well their team is doing. They are having a more positive outlook on what the Eastern Conference Finals and the NBA Finals will hold.
When asked what he believes the rest of the playoffs will look like, Layne Nayor claimed, “The Knicks look like a completely different team than they did in the regular season. The defense has been better, and the offense is coming into place. The Knicks are in great hands to win the championship this year.”
The last time the Knicks won the NBA championship was in 1973. It has been over half a century since they took home that trophy. Each year, Knicks fans are disappointed as their team does not get as far as they want in the season. There are mixed feelings in regards to the Knicks’ head coach, Thomas Thidbodeau. He has been coaching the Knicks since 2020, leading the Knicks to the playoffs each year except in 2022. Some believe that he doesn’t care about his reputation or results, and some believe that he has helped players grow and build better defense. All Knicks fans can hope for is that the Knicks use all of their skill, strength, and confidence.
