Union Cricket Club (UCC) played against UAlbany on 11th February in Memorial Field house. This marks their 5th game since the day when the club was founded on the 3rd of October, 2022. Before this game, Union College and UAlbany have been head-to-head in 4 games up until now, which consists of two home wins for either side.
UCC won the toss and chose to bowl first, considering the result of the last two games, where they won after bowling first.
UCC bowled exceptionally well throughout the game, conceding a total of only 4 boundaries in their entire innings. Musa Jamil ’27 had the best bowling figures of 2-4 in 2 overs, thanks to his massive pace and intelligence in the bowling. One of the former players, Abhay Kashyap ’25 made a great comeback by bowling in strategic areas and challenging the opposition to score runs, similar to his debut game that was played in UAlbany on 7th May, 2023.
Openers for Union College walked on the pitch with great morale to complete the chasable target of 52 in 10 overs. Shockingly, Mujtaba Siddiqui from UAlbany provided his team with a good start by taking back-to-back wickets and putting Union College under immense pressure right away.
James Gaskell ’25 and Ali Kazmi ’27 played sensible innings, making rotation and boundaries a must in each over. With aggressive batting of 25(14)- 25 runs of 14 balls by James Gaskell ’25 and a blitzkrieg of 31(15)- 31 not out of 15 balls- by Ali Kazmi ’27, Union ended victorious in their first ever game of 2024– finishing the match and starting of the year in style.
Union leads the Winter ’24 series by 1-0 and has an overall record of 3 wins in comparison to 2 wins of UAlbany in head to head contests, going in the overall lead for the first time ever in their history.
