Rathskeller to reopen after year-long hiatus

What it is:

The Rathskeller is one of Union College’s dining halls. Located beneath Old Chapel, the eatery is known for its close, boisterous atmosphere. With a low ceiling and long bar-top tables, Rathskeller was once a bar, although it no longer serves alcohol. Now more famous for its milkshakes and hamburgers, Rathskeller was previously open for lunch and dinner. But the place really livens up at night, as Rathskeller stays open while other eating locations stay closed. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent labor shortages, Rathskeller has been closed to in-person dining since Spring 2020 and entirely closed to all dining since Fall 2021.

What we know:

Union College Hospitality plans to reopen Rathskeller on Tuesday, September 27. The hours of operation will be from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. The menu will be the same as it was when it closed at the end of the 2020-2021 school year. This will likely include milkshakes (labor provided). This menu will run for two terms, until the end of Winter term. At that point, Hospitality may poll Union students on changes that they want to see in the menu.
