The Union Women’s lacrosse team fell short to the Clarkson Golden Knights on Saturday afternoon with a final score of 18-10.
This loss marks the eleventh loss for the Dutchwomen, who currently sit at a total record of 1-11 with a Liberty League Conference record of 1-7.
After the game, Clarkson improved to 11-5 as both teams head towards the end of their season.
Clarkson’s strong offense became evident in the first 30 seconds when they scored. Union tried to hold their position with the help of Cailin Pandolfi ’18 and Kellie Cronin ’19.
Both assisted by scoring two goals for the Dutchwomen. MK Mclntire ’20, Hannah Rosenberger ’19, Julia Pfohl ’19, Isabel Bush ’21, Ramsey Walsh ’19 and Lindsay Gerrato ‘21 each scored one goal.
Clarkson and Union played a clean game with no fouls on either side.
Both Union and Clarkson picked up five ground balls in the first half. However, Clarkson surpassed Union in the second half and picked up12 ground balls to Union’s seven. In total, the Golden Knights amassed 17 ground balls to Union’s 12.
Clarkson and Union both defended their goal with a total of 6-6 saves. However, Union suffered by having more turnovers. The Dutchwomen turned the ball over 19 times, nine more than their opponent.
Union’s attacker, Pandolfi, who recorded a team high of 34 draw controls last season, scored two goals in the game giving her a total of 19 goals, eight assists, and 48 shots for the 2018 season.
Union’s midfielder, Cronin, exceeded her total in-season scoring record from the 2017 season after she scored two goals on Saturday. She increased her total goals for the 2018 season to 13 goals. This is compared to the seven goals scored from last season.
Ellen Taney ’20, Union’s goalkeeper, exceeded her performance in the 2018 season. She has appeared in all of the 12 games in the season, rather than four games from last season.
She totals with 112 saves and 171 goals scored, giving her a 39% save percentage for the season.
Union is scheduled to play two games next week, one home game on April 27 against Bard College, and the second on April 28 against Vassar College.
