Last Sunday women’s soccer posted a dominant performance as the defeated Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, by a score of four to zero.
The Dutchwomen got off to a quick start with midfielder Bella Dworkin ’22 scoring a goal in the first five minutes, Emma Schleimer ’22 with the assist.
Then at right around the eleven minute mark Union added to their lead with Lindsey Giles ’20 sinking in a corner kick from Schleimer, the score was then Union two, Skidmore zero.
Then, about two minutes after Giles’ goal, at around the fourteen minute mark, Emma Schleimer nailed an 18 yard goal off an assist from Dworkin.
Next at around the 27 minute mark, forward Amanda Ashmen ’21 sunk a close range goal, off an assist from midfielder Erin O’Shea ’22.
This marked the last goal for the first half as the Dutchwomen exited the field with a four to zero lead.
This the score would remain as the second half was dominated by strong defensive performances with both teas preventing the other from scoring a single goal.
Individually, there were many Dutchwomen that gave noteworthy performances.
Schleimer finished the day with three shots, one shot on goal, one goal, and two assists. Dworkin amassed one goal and one assist, while tallying up two shots on goal.
Giles lead the Dutchwomen with ten shots and six shots on goal.Giles also finished the day with one goal and no assists. Amanda Ashmen racked up one goal, two shots, one shot on goal, and zero assists.
Collectively the Dutchwomen outperformed Albany in almost every category. They outscored them four to zero, outshot them 38 to zero, and outshot them on goal 18 to zero.
The Dutchwomen also had nine corners to Albany’s zero and only amassed two fouls to the Panther’s three.
Albany’s Goal Keeper, Gabriella Evangelist ended the day with a double digit save performance as she blocked 14 goals for the Panthers.
Union Goalie, Kelsey Hartsoe ’19, started for the Dutchwomen but due to a lockdown defensive performance, that allowed zero shots on goal. And thus, she never had the opportunity to even record a save.
The Dutchwomen finished the game with a 38-0 advantage in shot, led by Giles who had a carer-high 10 shots, including six on net. The game took place out on the College Park Field.
The Dutchwomen return to action Wednesday, Sept. 19, hosting Ramapo at 5:00 p.m. (Eastern Time).
Overall, the game was a great sight for many that were in presence. This was also the first ever women’s soccer game that was attended by President Harris ever since his inauguration.
