WOW: Maureen Matthews

Nomination: Maureen is an absolute ray of sunshine! I love walking into Upper every evening for dinner to a warm welcome from her. She always has a smile on her face and is willing to go above and beyond to help students with whatever they need in the dining hall. She inspires me to stay positive and spread kindness to everyone I meet.

What are your proudest accomplishments?

My proudest accomplishments are a 39-year marriage and three children, first and foremost, but also a strong work ethic that my parents instilled in me at a very young age.

What are you passionate about?

I am most passionate about my jobs. I have several, none of which are high profile by any means, but I do take pride in them! My favorite is my favorite job with my husband, landscaping. 

Who do you look up to?

The people I look up to most are my children. My eldest son is the first to go to college and is the executive chef and general manager of a catering company. My daughter is the first person in our family to graduate college with two degrees and still strives to continue learning new career paths. My youngest son is a service manager of a large commercial landscape/hardscape company.

What does being a woman at Union mean to you?

Being a woman at Union has brought some amazing people into my life. Some co-workers, some educators, and some students. Many will always hold a special place in my heart.
