On Friday, April 16th, the Union College Women’s Lacrosse team went down to Poughkeepsie, New York to face the Vassar Brewers. The women were victorious with a 19 – 16 win at Weinberg Field. 

Lindsay Gerrato ‘21 led the team with a career-high of eight points, scoring five goals and adding three assists, making her the 20th player in Union women’s lacrosse history to record 100 career points. Sydney McPartlon ‘23 had a game-high of six goals and Grace Heiting ‘22 scored one goal and six assists, the most assists by a Dutchwomen since April 2016. 

Vassar looked to establish themselves in the first quarter of the game by scoring the first goal. The Dutchwomen responded with a string of three unanswered goals, two of which were made by Sydney McPartlon. The Brewers decreased the two-point lead, to a one-point lead, but the Brewers were unable to get ahead of the Dutchwomen. Union scored three more times to make it a 6-2 game. At the end of the first half, Vassar had a man-up advantage and made it a 10-9 game with the Dutchwomen still leading. 

Starting for Union in the second half was Hannah Dubinsky ‘24 in goal, Lindsay Gerrato ‘21, Isabel Bush ‘21, Grace Heiting, Sydney McPartlon, Kit Christian ‘22, Caroline Hirt ‘21, Kat Heaney ‘21, Emma Driscoll ‘21, Elizabeth Hernberg ‘22, Courtney Cronin ‘21 and Erika Bonnist ‘21. Vassar scored twice in the first six minutes of play, taking control of the game. The Brewers and Dutchwomen battled it out until the last seven minutes of play where Union dominated. Sydney McPartlon made it a 16 – 16 game with an assist from Lindsay Gerrato. This was followed by three more goals for Union made by Lindsay Gerrato ‘21, and Sydney McPartlon with an assist from Grace Heiting. Isabel Bush secured the win for Union by making the final goal of the game with five seconds of play remaining.
