Outdoor track and field compete at Army’s Twilight Meet

This past Thursday, May 9, select individuals from both Union men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams competed at the 2019 Army Twilight Meet.

The first participant on the day was Kaitlin Close ’19 who ran the 800 meters in a time of 2:23.45. This was earned a 25 place finish for Close. Teammate, Amanda Ashmen ’21 was the second runner for the Dutchwomen and ran the 1500 meters in a time of 5:10.26.

Ashmen finished the race 17 place, edging out three other competitors. The first competitor for the men’s team was sprinter and jumper Andrew Fox ’22. Fox ran the 100 meter dash for the Dutchmen and finished with a time of 11.58.

This was good enough to garner Fox, a team leading, an eighth place finish. Fox’s next event was the 200 meter dash and he experienced even greater success.

He ran it in a time of 23.36 and scored a fifth place finish. Fox outperformed his previous race and surpassed the previous team leading, eighth place title.

The next runner on the day was David Bates ’21. Bates scored an impressive 2 place out of the 43 runners who participated in the event.

He clocked in at a time of 1:55.42. After the conclusion of relays, began the start of the field events.

While Union did not have any pole vaulters, Dante Scott ’21 competed in the jumping events for the Dutchmen.

He compiled a distance of 6.44 meters and brought home a seventh place finish for Union in the long jump.

Teammate Fox finished with a distance of 5.82 meters and rounded out the event with an 11 place finish.

Scott also competed in the Triple Jump and scored a seventh place finish in that event as well. Scott finished the triple jump with a distance of 12.79 meters.

Pat Glennon ’20 finished the triple jump at a distance of 11.68 meters and recorded an 8 place finish.

The last track and field compeition, All-Atlantic Region Championships will be held on May 26.
